Disaster recovery considered a key cloud computing adoption driver

One of the key benefits of cloud computing is its disaster recovery capabilities. According to a recent CloudBestPractices.net report by Neil McEvoy, some companies are reluctant to adopt the technology, but a disruption may be the catalyst for a cloud migration.

"In some cases a [disaster recovery] plan can see you building an entire duplicate of your existing data-centre across town, costing millions of dollars, where it just sits idle in case you need it," wrote McEvoy.

With the cloud, organizations can achieve greater disaster recovery preparedness at a lower cost. Since many businesses lack proper solutions to address these needs, the writer indicated the market for the cloud to address this demand is open to immense possibilities.

McEvoy added that once companies see the benefits of the cloud for disaster recovery capabilities, many will use the technology to address other business problems.

Failing to have disaster recovery system in place may not only cost companies productivity, it could potentially shut down their businesses for good. Organizations can use cloud computing for its email continuity solutions, which allow employees to access mission-critical files following a disruption.
